What is Meditation? Hints from a few great human beings

What does the “M” word mean? It’s time for us to move beyond our collective concept of MEDITATION. Because it is VAST. It is FLUID. It is MULTIDIMENSIONAL. And how it works depends only on YOU, your GOAL, and your PASSION. If your goal is to reduce stress and improve your financial well-being, that’s one thing. However, if your goal is to ascend from the physical world to a different density, that’s something quite different. Your path is unique. So it follows, your best meditation technique will be unique for YOU.

To get to the top of your game, you’ll need a teacher.
Choose a teacher who has a lineage of integrity, a lineage of souls that have actually succeeded in leaving the physical realm. That’s a requirement. No doubt, LIFE can be a great teacher, and we should all use it in that way. However, you will need an embodied person to show you the ropes, to encourage you through the tough spots, and most especially, to challenge you to exceed your own misunderstandings. (your bad habits, your laziness, your stubbornness, your tendency to make the same mistakes over and over, lifetime after lifetime. Choose someone tougher than you. Someone who you can trust with your very life.

This article is an assortment of techniques that break the standard mold.
Don’t expect to benefit from so-called “scientific” brainwave measures during meditation. Ha Ha! Any teacher that uses these invented “standards” doesn’t know what they are doing. In reality these tools exist in one dimension only. They are difficult to classify, as they vary radically with each person and each situation. If you must, it is far better to have someone read your “Heart frequency” by the Hawkins Scale, however even these categories are continuums of abstract made-up thought forms.

To reach the highest goal of meditation you must move off the map, beyond this realm.
You will feel disoriented and uncomfortable. Follow your own inner compass. Don’t judge your progress by how much joy you feel, as you could be making great progress yet feel like you’re wading through shit. This is why you’ll need a real teacher. Oh, and find someone with a sense of humor. Above all, pray for a true teacher to cross your path, as this will be your greatest gift. Then hang on for dear life! Here are a few great masters that have guided me:

  • and from the sky to the earth through you.
  • Breathe in and breathe out deeply.
  • When you take such deep breaths you realize you’re feeling relaxed, you are really relaxed.

2. RUDI Silent Open-Eye Meditation Class

“The person who undertakes these exercises must believe in God, or in a higher power, or in a great potential within himself. This is necessary because the goal of the exercise is surrender, the removal of all blocks, to allow the higher force to begin the process of destroying the ego, the physical, lower force within us.”

Rudi’s Double Breath Exercise

“A breathing exercise to use for drawing in cosmic energy is as follows: You draw in the breath high up through the nose and into the heart chakra. As you start the breath into the heart, you swallow in the throat and try to feel the swallow travel down to your heart center. The swallow is to release tension in the throat chakra and allow energy to expand there.

After swallowing, you continue to inhale breath into the heart center until the lungs are filled to their maximum capacity. The breath is held in the heart chakra for about the count of ten. This time count may become longer as strength is gained in the breathing.

During the time when the breath is held, you bring your mental concentration to the heart center and ask to surrender and try to feel very deeply inside the heart center. You must ask into the very core of your being, or deeply into the subconscious, to surrender to and receive the cosmic energy.

After the breath has been held for the count of ten, you exhale one fifth of the breath and inhale again, bringing the energy and the concentration to the energy center just below the navel. The breath is retained in the navel chakra for about the count of ten and then exhaled very slowly.

This double breathing to heart and navel chakras may be repeated from eight to ten times in a half hour period or about every three minutes. You should think of the breath as energy and develop the sensitivity to feel deep expansion of energy and to let the breathing be governed by that sensitivity as your strength and capacity increase.

When you are not doing the double breathing exercise, you should breathe into the navel chakra slowly, hold the breath for a few moments, and then exhale very slowly. If you feel an energy sensation in the navel or sex chakra, you should bring your attention to the tip of your spine and rock slowly from side to side on the base of the spine. This breaks up tension and allows the energy to rise up the spine to the top of the head. When you begin to do this exercise, your sensitivity may not be on the deeper energy levels. At first, you may not be able to feel definite energy sensations. This does not mean that the energy is not flowing through those channels but that you have not yet developed the sensitivity to feel it.”

“When this energy, known as the kundalini, rises from its dormant state, various spontaneous body movements sometimes occur. These may be uncontrolled body spasms and vibrations or heat. Also, as the kundalini force passes the throat energy center, the head may move back and forth rapidly. All these movements and indeed any experience must be surrendered to totally. There is no harm or danger in these movements as they are deep, healthful tension releases.” Rudi

3. Om Mani Peme Hung, Chant to Chenrezig

Chanting purifies the brain, the mind, and body frequencies. Many people are unaware of the cleansing power. On a purely physical level, it vibrates the body fluids, and clears the 3rd Ventricle of the brain, and the Confluence of Sinuses of the Cranio Sacral fluid. On a more powerful level, a particular chant when done with visualization, focus on sacred body points, and deep passion, it is a complete path to spiritual enlightenment. Just ask the High Lama, the Je Khenpo of Bhutan. This chant in particular brings powerful protection and physical health.

Om Mani Peme Hung is the chant of Chenrezig. Chenrezig is the high celestial being and God of compassion. He is also called Avalokiteshwar and Lokeshwara. We chant the Om Mani Peme Hung to have sympathy and empathy all the time for all living beings. When we chant, our body should be in a comfortable position with the back straight and the mind also concentrated. The voice must be comfortable, not so loud, not so soft. Not so fast, not so slow.

The six sacred syllables
OM MA NI PE ME HUNG
cannot be translated into any language,
because they come from outside this dimension.

How to Do the Chant:
During the chant also we meditate. We do the chant one hundred eight times, counting on your mala beads, or many more than that. After the chant you will find you can control your mind better. This chant gives powerful blessings to purify and focus the mind, while we offer respect to Chenrezig.

We can’t imagine the power of this chant. Because Chenrezig is the MAIN celestial being. He is supported by the vast thousands of higher celestial beings in the universe. That is why this is the best chant for you to purify the mind, to clear negative thoughts and habits, and make progress in your spiritual life. You have the entire pantheon behind you in all dimensions.

(This is the very beginning level practice. At higher levels we do different visualizations with moving images, colors, and body points.)

4. Falun Dafa with Master Li Hongzhi

Falun Gong or Falun Dafa (literally, “Dharma Wheel Practice” or “Law Wheel Practice”) is a modern Chinese spiritual practice that combines meditation and exercises with a moral philosophy centered on the tenets of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance (Chinese:真, 善, 忍).

Falun Gong was first taught publicly in Northeast China in 1992 by Li Hongzhi. The practice emphasizes morality and the cultivation of virtue, and identifies as a qigong practice of the Buddhist school, although its teachings also include elements drawn from Taoist traditions. Through moral rectitude and the practice of meditation, practitioners of Falun Gong aspire to eliminate attachments, and ultimately to achieve spiritual enlightenment.

Falun Gong differs from other qigong schools in its absence of fees or formal membership, lack of daily rituals of worship, its greater emphasis on morality, and the theological nature of its teachings. Western academics have described Falun Gong as a qigong discipline, a “spiritual movement”, a “cultivation system” in the tradition of Chinese antiquity, or as a form of Chinese religion. The practice initially enjoyed support from Chinese officialdom, but by the mid-1990s, the Communist Party and public security systems, expanded, viewed Falun Gong as a potential threat due to its size, from the state, and spiritual teachings. By 1999, government estimates placed the number of Falun Gong practitioners at 70 million. After that time, the CCP Chinese Communist Party began to censor the practice and threaten practitioners with imprisonment.

5. Love Meditation | Guided Metta Meditation by Thich Nhat Hanh

Meditation Text:

  • This moment is a happy moment.
  • Love meditation in the Buddhist tradition…
  • should be directed to yourself…
  • before you can love someone else.
  • Practice of self-love.
  • Focus our attention on what we really want.
  • Should be aware what we really want.
  • And the Buddha proposed like this:
  • May I be peaceful, happy, and light in body and in mind.
  • May I be safe and free from accidents.
  • May I be free from anger, unwholesome state of mind like fear and worries.
  • May I know to look at myself with the eyes of understanding and love.
  • May I be able to recognize and touch the seeds of joy and happiness in myself.
  • May I learn how to nourish myself with joy each day.
  • May I be able to live fresh, solid, and free.
  • May I not fall into the state of indifference or be caught in the extremes of attachment or aversion.”
  • May he or she be peaceful and light in his or her body and mind.
  • May he/she be safe and free from accidents.
  • May she be free from anger, unwholesome state of mind like fear and worries.
  • May she know to look at herself with the eyes of understanding and love.
  • May all beings be peaceful and light in their body and mind.
  • May all beings be safe and free from accidents.

What is Vipassana meditation technique?

Vipassana is an ancient mindfulness meditation technique. It involves observing your thoughts and emotions as they are, without judging or dwelling on them. Vipassana is different from mindfulness. Mindfulness is the action of paying attention to whatever is happening while it is happening. Whereas Vipassana is the cultivation of a special kind of insight in the true nature of reality.

Vipassana meditation is the practice of observing the subtle sensations throughout the body without reacting to them. You scan the body with your attention, noticing the sensations arise and simply watching them. If a sensation is pleasurable, you observe it and let it pass.

6. Earth Sky Meditation from Sri Yukteswar

“Breath of Unity” From Drunvalo Melchizedek’s book” Live in the Heart”

“This meditation is as old as humanity. Yet it is just as important today as it was thousands of years ago. It is a meditation with form, direction and a purpose to allow an ordinary person to consciously experience the presence of God. God is always present everywhere, but often as humans we forget. This meditation lets us remember.

Find a quiet place and sit comfortably, on the Earth itself if possible, and close your eyes. Begin to breathe rhythmically and evenly — meaning that you inhale in the same amount of time that you exhale. Relax, and let your everyday thoughts go. Just simply follow your breath.

In your inner vision, see a beautiful scene from nature. Whatever you find beautiful, the mountains, the desert, or ocean. If it is the mountains, for example, you might see their peaks covered with snow. You might picture rivers, trees, and the animals, and see white, billowing clouds in the sky. Breathe in the clean, fresh air. Do something with whatever place you have chosen that is dear to your heart. And in your heart, feel the love that you have for Nature and for Mother Earth. Allow this love to become strong until your very body feels this love.

Then take this love that you have for Mother Earth and place it in a little ball — perhaps two inches across — and with your intention send this little ball filled with your love down to the center of the Earth. Send it with the intention that Mother Earth feels the love that you have for Her. And then you wait.

You wait for Mother Earth to send Her love back to you. She always will, as you are Her child. Some people experience it immediately and for others it takes a little while. It is a very real experience. It is not an intellectual thing. It is not you saying to yourself, ”I am now feeling Mother Earth’s love.” When Mother Earth’s love returns to you, it will be as sweet as the time that your own mother looked into your eyes when you were a baby. Feel this love, and let it move all through your body. Let it move through every cell in your body. Let it move even into your Light Body, and all that you are. And for a time — as long as you wish — simply stay in this connected love, with yourself in the arms of the Divine Mother.

When the time seems right, and without breaking the connection with the Divine Mother, turn your attention to the Divine Father, who is the rest of creation other than the Earth. In your inner vision, see a night sky filled with the multitude of stars of the Milky Way. See the planets, the sun (which would have to be over the horizon), and the moon. See the beauty of Creation, and feel the love that you have for the Divine Father. Allow this love to grow stronger until you are ready to burst with tears of love.

And then, just as with the Mother, gather this love and put it into a little ball, and with your intention send it into the Heavens. Either send it to the sacred grids around the Earth, if you understand them, or send it to the Central Sun, if you understand what that means. Or — which is what most indigenous people do — send it to our own sun. It is your intention that matters. And then you wait.

As with the Mother, you wait until the Father sends His love back to you. He always will, as you are His child. When you feel this love return to you, let it move throughout your body and to all your cells. Let it move even into your Light Body and all that you are. Again, you can stay in this love with the Father as long as you wish.

Realize at this moment you are in love with the Divine Mother and Father at the same time. It is extremely rare for a human being to experience this. Realize even further that the Holy Trinity is now being manifest on Earth. The Divine Mother, the Divine Father, and you — the Divine Child — are all bound by Love in a Holy Triangle.

According to Sri Yukteswar, it is only from this sacred place of the Holy Trinity that the Creator can be seen clearly and experienced so directly. Now, without breaking the bonds of love between your Divine Parents, simply allow the presence of God to be experienced directly. Allow God to come within your body and all around you. What happens now is between you and God. Trust yourself, as you are a Child of God. Believe in yourself, as you are one with the Source. From this point on, there are no words. May this meditation be a blessing in your life and to all those you touch. From Sri Yukteswar via Drunvalo Melchizedek.”

“Human conduct is ever unreliable until man is anchored in the Divine. Everything in the future will improve if you are making a spiritual effort now.”  Sri Giri Yukteswar
